Cleaning your Lock Empty Cleaning your Lock

Decided since I had a main spring vise that safely worked with the smaller traditions lock, I'd take the lock apart and give it a deep cleaning.

Not horrible for 2+ years without a deep cleaning.

I use an 800 grit scotchbrite pad on everything and then a mixture of light mineral oil and the tiniest amount of ATF mixed in. The ATF added really slicks it up. No longer going to use grease as it just attracts too much crud that can get abrasive over time as it builds up on the internals.

Be sure that the lubricant you use, stays liquid and does not dry up over time. Amsoil for example makes a great gun lubricant, but over time, it dries up to a film. Not what you are looking for if you are wanting to keep your lock in top condition.

Cleaned, oiled, ready for action! If you have a Traditions, be aware that their main spring is extremely strong
and it is NOT recommended to use pliers or vice grips to remove the main spring! There is a ton of pressure
and if it slips out, can easily injure you, as well as break the spring. I learned the hard way before I found the
correct size main spring vice.
