I will say 1851 Navy in .36 Steel or Brass shooters preference. My first cap/ball revolver, was an 1851 Navy Sheriff Brass in .44, However I was well educated on that ramrod prior to my purchase. Being stated if I am asked by kids, new people wanting to bust in to black powder revolvers. Well Pietta or Uberti 1851 Navy whatever frame you like Then I point them here if you choose Pietta you will have to do a little work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g5Qfo-yFq0 Get ya some jewelers files and follow the video

That's what I started with, a Dixie GW 1851 (Pietta made them, I believe). As with so many guns, I wish I still had it! Great fun to shoot. I would stay away from brass frames; I bought a Reb model in .44 and it went out of time seriously!

Been there and learned my lesson too. Brass frames are ok only if there loaded mild. Mine was a 58 Remington. Bought it at monkey wards in the late 70s. Stay with steel frames and have fun. My personal favorite is a 60 Army / uberty.

I've only owned two revolvers, a Rogers & Spencer and a 1858 Remington. Both were in .44 and had steel frames. Accuracy was as good as most modern revolvers.

Because of the size of an 1860 Colt and barrel length they make an excellent club after being emptied ....

IMHO as long as it has a steel frame and doesn't rattle it's a toss of a coin.
