Largest turkey
This trophy isn't new as it was shot several years back. But it's one of the very few I have any photos of.

That Chevy was only a few years old. Good times in New Mexico with my Dad's friends.
Oh for the good old days ....

I remember "the good ol" days" myself. There were fewer people - less than 190M - when I graduated from HS. More people, more sorrow.

Isn't that the truth, too many fools running around and shooting at anything that moves. Our group has been very lucky with not getting hit when shot at by mistake. I personally have been shot at three times, lucky that I wasn't hit (high power rounds) and shot (sprayed two times with shot) when bird hunting. !@#$%^

Re: Largest turkey
I no longer hunt and haven't hied to the deer bush in (or any other game) in at least 6 years. But OH the memories and trophies. I do not get around very well at all these days and haven't for quite a long time. Sadly, it would not be very safe for me to get out there in the first place. Here are a few I managed to hang onto.
I have a few more but no photos so I guess I need to take a few more pictures pretty soon.

The gentleman with the shotgun (a rare FOX DE SPECIAL GRADE DOUBLE BARREL shotgun in 12 ga. "Spectacular Philadelphia Fox" with 28” Chromox Fluid Steel bbls. choked MOD/IMP-CYL) on his shoulder is my father. I would tell him the value of the gun and he would reply "I bought this club to hunt with because it fit me, shut-up". End of that story ...
The other two gentlemen are his brothers-in-laws, my uncles. I like the converted school bus camper.
Fun picture ...

I know what you mean Buck.
My kid bought me a Winchester Model 70 pre 64 back in the '90's.
Years later when I moved to Texas I sold it because I moved out of Colorado and hunting in Texas just didn't cut it. Didn't hunt hogs at the time. Well, I sure did miss having that rifle when I moved back to Colorado! So, I finally found one in great condition and bought it. Don't sell many firearms anymore unless they are bought for resale....

Me, too. I owned near 200 guns (not at one time) but would always sell one, get skint and follow my nose toward something else. So I now have only a few but that's still more than I actually need. Three would outfit me completely these days - flint smoothbore, .32 or .36 squirrel rifle and a deer caliber longrifle.

If one would give some thought to what you said. They would realize that's about all any of us really need. Good post bud ...

A few town hunters from the 30's through the 50's use to tell us "Don't worry about the size of the horns, the bigger the horns the tougher the meat". "You don't eat the horns kid".

Not to worry about population. They have a way figured to depopulate....we are all to blind to see it.Hanshi wrote:I remember "the good ol" days" myself. There were fewer people - less than 190M - when I graduated from HS. More people, more sorrow.
Re: Largest turkey
The movie "Soylent Green" comes to mind when talking about the population.
Soylent Green the 1973 American ecological dystopian thriller film, directed by Richard Fleischer, starring Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young and Edward G. Robinson in his final film role. Loosely based on the 1966 science fiction novel Make Room, the film combines police procedural and science fiction genres.

Soylent Green was a very good movie with an even greater message. I still remember going to see it.

I'm proud to be a Georgia Cracker. When I was much younger we had a minor league baseball team called the Atlanta Crackers. They were very, very popular. Later, of course, we got a major league team, the Braves.

Need really doesn't come in to the picture. Want is the factor we deal with.Buck Conner wrote:Hanshi wrote:Me, too. Re: Largest turkey
My favorite hunts have been shooting buffalo at a friend's place in Kansas. Open range of 23 sections, buffalo run wild, so you have to really hunt them on this large area. None of the penned baloney some of these guys write about.
I have shot (12) animals of my own and that many for others that couldn't keep them on the ground. Some folks shouldn't be allowed to hunt !@#$%^.
