Kits which one
I know little about flintlock kits but have some wood working, but not much. What is a good kit to buy as a first build. I would like to build a copy of a John Young rifle I seen but know it is way more than I could do. Think I can do an easy kit. Can't do a kit that is almost a scratch build.

Re: Kits which one
WELL which one, mmmm far as I gathered informational wise and wow so many I generally run with traditions, YES a little rough round the edges, Locks are not as great as say Pendersoli , TVM, Kibler or even Chambers. Parts are a Plenty and are quick to be had. YES the other`s will tend to be a better quality, perhaps last a little longer, Myself I do not have $1000+ to offer. If all else fails check em all find the one in the package deal that blows your skirt up, run with that one. That is the best advise but hey it aint none of my business

.
PRICES HAVE GONE OFF THE TABLE THESE DAYS. now the parts are crazy if you can get them at all, TOTW's prices have really jumped lately. Use to be able to buy all the parts in a kit for an H. E Leman for $825.xx shipping included. A completed rifle (same model) shipped for under $1,700. xx.
Now you're looking at $1,250.xx for parts plus a $1,000.xx labor. Four years ago, we were building GRRW.CA Hawkens, Lemans, and Poor Boys in the $1,600.xx to $2,000.xx range depending on model.
I talked to John a while back at Track and their biggest issue was getting the material for the kits. Their suppliers were having labor problems just getting their people to show up, thanks to Biden, sad affair ...
We closed the doors for the last time at GRRW Collectors Association on January 1st of this year because of Doc Whites passing and the parts issue together was more than any of wanted to deal with (age was another big issue with everyone over 80 years of age.

Re: Kits which one
Kibler kits have a great reputation and are supposed to be easy to build. His prices haven't gone up as much as many others (https://www.jimkibler.net/). $1075 for his Southern Mountain kit is not bad these days!
Then there are the Traditions kits, if you can find them. Deer Creek has some, if I needed one I'd go for the flintlock Mountain Rifle kit:

Yes look at kibler. Best bang for your buck and he'll back up his product.

Re: Kits which one
I need to clarify my previous post. It seems that does NOT include the lock, which you have to order separately. I see that that is $315 now. The Woodsrunner kit is $920 so $1235 plus shipping for the complete kit....
