Hunting is permitted in Roosevelt National Forest on the east side of Estes Park, Colorado.

Elk that live in the National Park in the summer naturally migrate to the warmer, lower elevations of the National Forest for the winter, and during the Fall rutting season, trophy status bulls wander from the protection of the Park into surrounding areas (including downtown Estes Park!) in search of cows, food, and territory.

The Park relies on hunters in the National Forest to thin their herds.

There are three times more elk in Estes than in Rocky Mountain National Park. We need more hunters to keep the elk in balance with the habitat. Estes Park Outfitters provides full service trips and support for do-it-yourself hunters.

I know Uffda, Bent, Buck and a few others here have hunted this area. Buck had pretty good success a few years ago in Area 20.

The logs for this cabin came from my grandfathers farm (thought to be over a 150 years old) squared red oak from two cabins made into one cabin (seen). The base logs where 14 inches square - top logs (second floor) measured 12 inches square.

My grandfather had over 1,500 acres near Penn State PA, we hunted that property until it was sold in the 1970's. Good White Tail and Black Bear country.

To bad you guys sold that cabin, I remember talking to your Dad and looking at all the cool pictures of hunts from that place, seems everyone had 92's or 94 Winchesters in those days.

I've never seen so many guys in one group outfitted like they were, neat stuff.

His dad was a pretty cool dude, pretty low key until antiques were mentioned. Man, what knowledge he had (he had been around that circle a few times). Guns were his special thing but knew a bunch about antiques in general for dates made to going prices... WOW  fun stuff ...

It would have been a good time to have hunted out of that cabin, lots of white tail and black bear.

The problem now Ben is most of the open available land in old Area 20 is land locked by private owners (all signed off). I talked to a friend in Estes Park a few nights ago about a few areas we use to hunt and that was the case for them (private property now). No access ....
