Newly rebarreld CVA Mountain Pistol
Cut the 28" long barrel down yesterday and ended up with a 7 7/8" long barrel after trying up the end. Crowned it with my stones. I need to do a little clean up work tomorrow and lap the bore, but overall, it came out perfect and balances amazing. Shame they never made one in 54cal to begin with! Would have saved me a lot of trouble.

Almost done!
They never made the CVA Mountain Pistol in .54cal, so I took a spare Hawken barrel, cut a new dovetail for the wedge key and the rear sight. I ended up going with a more user friendly 7" barrel. So far, shes shootin pretty! I crowned the section I cut off, and later on, I'll breech the other longer section and make a nice bear pistol set up!
Time to go find my taller front sight and get that installed. Shame too! It shot perfectly center with 40gr 3f.
3 shots fired off hand from 10 yards, 30gr Gearhart Owen 3fg, .015" patches and .530" round balls.

The CVA Mountain Pistol is no longer made, but the Traditions Trapper is made and looks close to it, except with double triggers. Think of the TC Patriot pistol, very similar.

Well, you could get the parts from Deer Creek: https://www.deercreekproducts.net/store/c21/CVA_Mountain_Pistol_Parts.html

That 1:48 twist also does awesome in this 7 inch barreled pistol!

Yep, when CVA quit selling traditional type guns Deer Creek bought up their inventory of parts. When the old folks had it, and Buck probably knew them, they also made their own stocks and barrels, then put together their own kits. The young folks who bought the business just seem to be selling off what is left, and Traditions etc. merchandise.
How much would Traditions charge for a new lock? More than $75, I would think!

Expensive, is subjective. Price those same items on Ebay. The lock will only fit the Mountain Rifle or Pistol, the rear lock screw is in a different location than other CVA locks. Hard to find elsewhere. Yes, I found out the hard way. Fortunately the Ebay seller took the other lock back and paid for return shipping.
Not only will they cost you more from Ebay, each item will have shipping costs, deer creek, on the other hand, will ship everything with one shipping cost. The lock at $75 is reasonably priced, since it’s new and unused.
The only thing they do not have is the barrel. The small screws can be bought at a hardware store.
Speaking of barrels, there are a few CVA Hawken .50 cal pistol barrels on Ebay for $69+shipping. The difference between the Hawken and Mountain Pistol barrels is the Hawken uses a button tang, the MP a hook.
BTW, I’m in the end stages of putting one together. The cost was a bit more than I wanted to spend, more than the Tradition’s. It’s what I wanted and not spending much on anything else since Covid, it didn’t break the bank. I bought the barrel 1st.
