Jim Beckwourth
.
Here's a man that had many stories about him, some true and some not so to ... (told by himself ...) Occasionally while bragging about his adventures, he would put himself in two separate places at the same time, several hundred miles apart. Still he was there and did not back down from a fight, what a character ../.
I have an old friend of 50 years, that has one of Beckwourth's rifles Jeff Hengesbaugh see:
James Beckwourth is one of the most interesting of Old West characters. He was present during the Bear Flag Rebellion, the Seminole War, and the Sand Creek Massacre. He was—at various times—a trader, merchant, prospector, gambler, hotel manager, trail blazer, and so much more.
It’s a remarkable legacy, but one that is often slighted. The reason: Beckwourth was mixed race, so his exploits were either downplayed or ignored during his lifetime. Unfortunately, that has continued through today.
