Techniques for Catching Fish in a Survival Situation Hand Fishing.

Saw lots of weirs in SE Alaska. Stakes driven into the river or creek bed at the mouth to form a "V" pointed upstream with a small opening at the point. Fish would swim up stream and be guided through the opening but could not find it going the other way and were trapped where the legs of the "V" came to shore. This worked in tidal areas where the high tides would inundate the estuaries, then at low tide there was little water and the fish could be hauled out to be smoked and dried.

That's interesting Hawk, have seen movies about this but never knew anyone that had seen this idea really work, thanks.

I guess I need to clarify that these were NOT new, but the relics left over from years ago when the Natives still lived a real subsistence lifestyle as opposed to what is now called subsistence.
