2023 Hunting Season
Well, we had a hell of a day in the Colorado big game draw!
Here's how it goes.
Dad - Cow elk tag
Brother - Doe tag & cow elk tag
Me - Buck tag & Bull tag
Very very excited!
We all will be using traditional muzzleloaders, shooting real black powder and patched round balls from our 54s!
We're also high altitude camping in my buddies 10x10 bell tent. We did this last year and were super comfortable. We were able to hunt closer to our hunting area and have a much shorter atv ride. A lot less wear and tear on the body! Our camping spot was perfect as we ended up being right in the middle of a elk highway that was so noisy at night, the bugling woke you up throughout the night.

That view is breathtaking! I now feel the need to post a Maine photo.

I don't know if you like ice fishing or not but last winter too much warmth and the river never froze over. Been here 5 years and that's a first. Fishing is BIG up here and so is hunting. Go north, west and ponds are usually frozen over, but fishing is good for any season. Lots of bears and the success rate is high, especially with a guide. I can't hunt or fish any longer but fun is there for the taking.

The lakes up here in the mountains freeze up pretty good. Usually able to drive out on the lake. Haven;t been ice fishing in a few years, and sounds like a good idea this year. Have had plenty of bear activity on my property this year, but, don't actually hunt them unless they became damage bears. Muzzleloader season coming up Sept.9-17 and we are ready.
Take care Tom

The ponds still freeze over here. They're warning that you shouldn't drive onto the ice less than 6" thick. Global warming now seems to keep the river from freezing over. Five years ago the river had fishing shanties up and down the river, but no more unless we happen to hit some kind of really cold winter. Snowfall decreases every winter; snow season comes later and ends sooner. Good news for a Georgia Cracker but it's a troubling warning for the Maine climate. And we now typically get around half the snow compared with 6 years ago.
Maine is a very mountainous state, about like most of NE. Mt. Katahdin - the end of the Appalachian trail - is rather dangerous. Rescue squads stay busy through the year, lots of injuries and a few deaths. Of course one needs to be prepared if going up any of the mountains.
Be careful on the ice, Stan, and I'll be careful in the snow.

Well, no amount of democrat policies or elite taxes is going to change mother nature. it has changed for billions of years. Old saying we had and still have: Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome, elst they perish.
Ice is always 1'+ thick. We always check before heading on the ice. Usually walk and set up and leave vehicle on shore.
Like anything else in this world rain, snow, heat always change. Last year snows and winter kill were so bad, tags were reduced in Northern Colorado.
We'll either hit rain or snow, and sometimes both, when we hunt ML season.
You just take care Tom.

Re: 2023 Hunting Season
A handful of warm days early on but mostly sweatshirt days otherwise. I was born and bred in Georgia and raised in the stifling, muggy heat of the deep South. I don't like cold but am use to it pretty much because, well, it's Maine. I don't hunt any longer having stopped 6+ years ago; but I use to live in the woods during the season. I loved taking advantage of the 12 deer limit, fox squirrels, cottontails and more. I miss the snakes, a constant sight, including the 6 most venomous ones.
Ah, but the memories. You know how it is, you can be anywhere but your heart is where it should be. Be nice if we lived closer; but regardless of all that a friend is a friend. Take care of yourself, Stan.

Thanks Tom. It sure would be nice if we lived closer.
You take care friend and I'll keep you updated on the hunt this year.
Jonathan has a friend with some property in Oklahoma, and I would love to go back there around March and do some hog hunting.
You know me, I'll settle for what I get, if I get.
Take care Tom

We had a leaking roof. Had to run back to town for a tarp and everything was OK. Tons of rain.

Re: 2023 Hunting Season
On the other side of the continental divide we have a hurricane coming up the coast. Depending on which model of the storm is correct we will get hit. If the other model is correct it will slide past us off shore and clip Canada. This summer has been thunderstorms and overcast downpours with no end in sight. Enough already!
