Howdy Guys
I haven't been on the forum or any muzzleloader forum for awhile. I got too old to hunt anymore. I sold my last gun and all my stuff for it and just faded away from muzzleloaders. I kept up my interest by playing a hunting game called Hunter Classic. It pretty good and I can get immersed enough to sort of satisfy my hunting urge. They have one caplock. It's a copy of the TC Hawken. I use it and wear buckskins they have too. I also use old brass binos too. I also use old traditional tents. It has a bear hide draped over it.
However, it's not enough. I need to smell some black powder again as I blow a cloud of smoke. So, i'm thinking of buying another gun and stuff to shoot and clean it. Join the Colorado State Muzzleloader Assy. and shoot the postal shoots. Then maybe once a year go and shoot the State shoot. I have a ton of medical problems but if I get a fairly light muzzleloader and use light target loads. Maybe I can do it. My back is really bad and it's bent over pretty bad. I look at my feet when I walk. Maybe I can straighten up enough to shoot. I'd like to try. I have some private property I have permission to shoot on.
Anyway, that's what i'm up too. How about you?

Re: Howdy Guys
Hey Pete, glad to see you back. That game is really nice. Did you see the new Turkey game they have? Thanks for telling us about that game.
Stan, Jonathan, and me had a really rainy ML hunting season this year, but, still manged a deer in the freezer.

Get what you can handle and smoke that smokepole and clean to your hearts desire all the while you are smiling ear to ear. Hang in there. Good for you Stan and Johnathan on a critter in the freezer.

Re: Howdy Guys
I bought a Traditions Woodsman this morning. I wanted a gun that was lighter than what I used in the past. We'll see how it works out. I'll do the postal shoots for the next year and try a deer hunt next season. Something to work towards anyway.
Thanks for the posts guys.

Thanks for the posts guys.
Once you've shot & hunted with muzzleloaders, they get in your blood. That's what I like about you Pete, even though you have those health problems, you don't give up. That's ll you can do is try, and you know you've down your best.
BTW: I know you like the sidelock traditional ML's, but Traditions has an inline that is almost 3 lbs. lighter than the Woodsman. Traditions Pursuit Ultralight is only 5.15 lbs. Just a thought to help you cope.
Take care.

Would an old mountain man use an inline?

Not if given a choice. Just something to think about if the heavier gun doesn't work out for you.
Good luck and give'er hell.
Re: Howdy Guys
The Woodsman is a little under 8 lbs. I think i'll be ok but won't know for sure until I get it. I'm talking with Jon about making it look better. More like it would in 1840.

You folks get any snow out in Bueny yet?
Re: Howdy Guys
Not yet, but I don't think it's far off. It's in the low 30's at night and 40's right now

Re: Howdy Guys
We used the primitive style tent that Jonathan got a deal on at the Santa Fe Trail Rendezvous. It was really nice and roomy and comfortable. It was a rainy ML hunt. but, still a lot of fun.

Yeah, i'm not a fan of rain on a hunt. I'd rather have snow.

We had rain and hail. Fortunately the hail was only pea size. Still, Stan came away with a deer.
