newest build

this be my latest build. picked up the cherry plank cheap. it just kinda evolved. sorta Hawkenish i suppose.
me and the wife had our 54th wedding anniversary in January so i gave this one to her.
.45 Colrain barrel, Bob Roler lock. Davis triggers. pewter nose cap, muzzleloaderbuilderssupply early Hawken trigger guard, MBS butt plate, hand made toe plate.
Laurel mountain cherry stain dried then Aqua Fortis over coat blushed at 600 degrees. finished with BC Tru-oil.
may be my last plank build. being old sucks.

matches my girl! never used cherry before and had my doubts about how it would turn out with using Aqua Fortis over the cherry dye but it shines!

I just find it amazing the effect the Aqua Fortis had being added after the cherry stain. And, MAN, does that beautiful figure pop out.

just received 3 stock blanks from a nephew in law. he drove them out from Ohio. one was shaped for a "Kentucky long rifle" and i just happened to have a 42 inch Colerain .45 barrel sitting and doing nothing. have the barrel 3/4 inlet.
this is going to have a tang 10" long ending in a lollipop on the comb.
may not get a cheek piece as the blanks are just 1.75 inch thick.
was in the middle of a maple build with a swamped Colerain swamped 58 cal.
not having built a walnut long rifle before, i set the maple aside for now. if i have it done for bear this fall i will be happy.
