Testing Black Powder Paper Cartridges

So why the grease over the cartridge?  That is supposed to keep chain fires at bay by sealing the front of the cylinder.  The paper does that for you.

Actually, I was told long ago, that it really doesn't do much good, that chain fires happen at the back of the cylinder with flash from the nipple setting off the chamber next to it.

Looking forward to Buck's comments on this, as it was a friend of his who gave me that info on the old MLML site.

Exactly.  Crisco is cheap and simple.

Schuetzen & Swiss, IF you can afford it, and if it can be found.  Possibly Wano, but I'm not sure if anyone in the US is handling it any more.  I think it may be Schuetzen when it gets here from Germany.
