Old Powder Horn Repair ...
.
I got out an old powder horn I have been saving, purchase 40 years ago at an antigue store in Berwyn PA.
The horn wasn't in bad shape, only missing the filler plug at the back of the horn. Only reason I purchase it was because of the odd spout which I have seen different versions of.
Ordered a missing staple and a brass replacement plug assembly from Track of the Wolf to fill the original hole in the base. An hour worth of filing and I was ready for some hide glue.
I didn't care for the fancy brass turned plug so I modified it to a smaller shape so I could use the existing staple holes.
Once I was finished I took a few pictures for you see my old/new powder horn. Fun stuff ...

Yes I have used and worked fairly decent. Yes it was Birchwood Casey.

I like what you did to the plug! I have the same one I put on my horn, with the strap hooked to it. I may have to copy what you did and add a staple for the strap.

Using the brass setup is always a question to how long before the strap slides off, that's why I like the stap-arrangement

I've blackened brass nicely using Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black. In fact I have one rifle brass mounted that I blackened using it years ago. It does a good job. The difference between Aluminum and Brass Black?? I don't know having never used the brass black. Could they be the same liquid?
