SUBJECT: New Project ...

I placed an ad in the Buy ~ Sell ~ Trade section of this forum. No-one could help find this GRRW Leman from the early 70's once owned. See ad below.

  • I'm looking for a rifle I once owned.  It started life as a GRRW Leman 1/2 stock trade rifle in .58 caliber (blond in color wood), in time I had a gunsmith in Fort Collins convert it to a flintlock with set triggers and dark wood with a silver plate on the left side that read "BREED" "Built By Leman - Repaired By Hawken". I sold it to Cache La Pourde Rifle Works in Fort Collins. Would like to contact the owner.

I really liked the look and the weight of this rifle. Got to thinking and have decided to take a "like rifle" I own (one that Jonathan had worked on) an H.E. Leman [GRRW.CA build] and have it converted into what I have been looking for. The only different would be a .50 caliber instead of a .58 caliber.

Talked to custom muzzleloader builder [GRRW/GRRW.CA] Carl Walker about a conversion. We are working on a parts list now.

Trigger:
1 - [TR-DST-4] Double Lever Double Set Trigger, straight front trigger.
Trigger-guard:
1 - [TG-Hawken-1-S] Trigger-guard, Hawken-Early, wax cast steel,
Trigger-plate:
1 - [TR-LEMAN-1-P] Trigger plate, wax cast steel.
Lock:
1 - [LOCK-LR-900-D] Late English Flint Lock, right hand, by L&R.
Vent Liner-Nipple:
1 - [THL-S4S] Vent, Touch Hole Liner, stainless steel.

Another fun project (still thinking about this  ... would be a rear sight for the trade gun Jonathan videoed.  GRRW.CA  H.E. Leman NW Trade Gun built by Doc White [GRRW.CA #NW01 DGW] ...

New Project ... Empty Looks like a bad week ...

Post by Buck Conner 15/7/2022, 9:16 am

Looks like a bad week has me down now for a time. !@#$%^

I was pulling a garden hose to water one of the trees on the street got tangled up and fell headfirst on concrete walk. Knock me out for a brief period ...  Now heading to hospital to get ex-rays, may have broken my collar bone *$#@

Can't move my right arm or shoulder, hopefully just a bad bruise.

Got back from the ER they found:
cracked trapezium in my wrist
badly bruised clavicle and deitoid in shoulder
concussion to head (concussion has short-term and long-term complications)
bruised kneecaps and ACL bruise

Will take a month to recover from my "crash & burn" fall.

The only fortunate things is, you have a hard head.
Take care my friend and next time, slow down, and go easy.

Dang, those hoses will get you every time! Hope you mend up quick. At least you still seem to have your sense of humor about you, looking at the picture of the feller going head-over-heels. Shocked

Take care,

Yes, but not quite as dumb as the things we did when in our youth.
You just take it easy for now and slow it down a bit.
Just a suggestion: get one of those hose reels, they work very well.

This should make you laugh!
In 2015 I had a metal 30' x 40' barn put up.
We wanted water and power to it because I had alpacas at the time.
Well, we had a guy come out and trench from the house to the barn(about 350'). Of corse as talent in Trinidad would have it, he only trenched it 24"-28" deep. Didn't realize until he left. Well, me and the boys took several days to dig it out to 4' in depth with pick and shovel. I guess you know we were already pi$$ed! At the house I had to dig a hole about 30"+ in diameter so I could make a connection for a water line to hook up in the crawl space to the well. It was getting towards dusk so we decided to give it up for the day. The oldest boy(also named Stan) went to check on the animals water/feed etc. And I took some of the tools back to the shop. Well now the evening is approaching fast and the light is fading fast. So I come walking back pretty damned fast and I figured I'd help Stan with the animals. So I come sailing through the area that we just dug up, and I'm not paying attention! And don't ya know it, yup, stepped right in that damned hole that I just dug. Leg and knee hurt so bad I couldn't move, Stan finally came around the corner and helped me out, looked at me, and said, "how in God's name did you step in that hole, you just dug it out"!! Well I still ain't lived that one down. Took several months to finally walk without a limp. BTW: got the water line and electrical in without falling in the ditch line again.

Sorry about your injuries Buck. They used to be painful enough, but we healed quickly. At our age (I’m 70) they’re still painful and it takes a hell of a long time to heal.

You know, it would be really nice if we worked like vehicles.
You do a tune up every so often.
You keep the body from rusting.
You take care of the drivetrain, engine, transmission, etc.
Vehicle runs like new!! And looks like it came from the factory or better!
But noooooo! As you get older, shit begins to fail, you fix what you can and it still continues to deteriorate! Ah hell, at least we're still going down the road, smoke a little, less power, rattle some, bald tires on some.
Hell I'm surprised I made it to 74! New Project ... Crying11
