New CVA Mountain Rifle project
Got my latest rendezvous find mostly stripped down yesterday. The stock is plain maple. I think I'm going to take this one dark and a satin finish. My trademark dark Chocolate brown barrel finish, along with all the steel trim, should make the rifle lol nicely. This one is a 50cal 1:66 twist and shoots wonderful. It was a nicely put together kit gun, but I wanted to spice it up a little.

My first sidelock! Also the Hodgepodge Rifle I have now, and several other Mountain Rifles I have had in the intervening 35 years. The barrels were great except for having the Spanish patent breech.

I like that stock color. Wish I could snag something similar.

I did that when I made the Hodgepodge rifle. The result was a casting hole when I was finished. I replaced it with a Leman TG from Track of the Wolf, which I was able to fit. It ain't purty, but it has more space for my fingers. I removed the rear trigger and just use the front one which has a decent pull once I polished it, the seer notch and the seer.
The CVA Frontier Rifle TG should fit the mortise and doesn't have the spur, but is only available in brass:

I dont want to mod this one boys! It would decrease the value on it.
Re: New CVA Mountain Rifle project
I got to say I really like your rifle, that's what I'd love to build. For some reason I've never been a big fan of half stock rifles. Nothing against them, really, I'm just a rabid longrifle fan. I do have a delightful half stock .45 built by Mike Lange. It's actually a kid's rifle but fits my small stature perfectly. I'll always keep my 55 year old underhammer .45 which is a wall-hanger so it can retire in peace.
My only 1/2 stock.
The old H&A.
The Traditions Crockett I fired & hunted with for years before having to sell it. I loved this rifle.
This Traditions DeerHunter was my main hunting/shooting rifle for over 20 years. It was replaced by the Mike Lange rifle.

Jonathan, could you post a close up of the lock panel? I need to redo the one on my Hodgepodge rifle and need a good picture to see what I need to do, and this one looks like a dandy to copy.
Thanks,

Re: New CVA Mountain Rifle project
I just finished a new stock on a CVA Bobcat rifle. I sent the plastic stock to Pecatonica River Long Rifle Supply and they modified a full stock for T-C Hawken to fit. It has been a couple of years in the process since I was too chicken to maybe screw up a nice piece of maple. In the end it turned out okay despite the various "oopsies". Finish is Linspeed over Birchwood-Casey walnut stain.
I would post photos but am at a loss as to how I would do that....

AS I posted, I have no idea how to add photos on this site. I have a sneaking suspicion that it involves having them on another site, then somehow telling the wondrous confuser where to pull them in from. At least I couldn't just import them from my hard drive....

I have near all my photos on the computer as insurance. But they are also on imgBB and postimage. I normally have no problem posting from these three sources. I find it much easier to post from those two photo services than from my computer, primarily because it takes so long to sort through the pics just to find the one I want. Forums posting is pretty straight forward but the only way I've found to post on facebook is directly from the computer.
PM me if I can help you with any of the details, Kees.

What would one like this sell for Jonathan?

Re: New CVA Mountain Rifle project
Damn, that's a great price. Now you have me thinking ....
Does CVA even make a traditional gun anymore?

Re: New CVA Mountain Rifle project
Traditions is the same thing from Spain, though. Do they still have the Mountain Rifle? I was all excited when I saw they were carrying it but haven't seen much about it since. Didn't Jonathon put one together a while back?

Thank you, Buck! Interesting that the completed rifle in the picture doesn't have the "dangly thing" on the trigger guard, while the parts picture does....
