Same here. Windy days are too common for any serious shooting. Add snow and you want to stay home. I haven't been to the range in a long time and I don't like it. So the next decent day will be spent at the range.

I'm trying to enjoy this weekend, then all hell breaks loose on Tue. of next week. Right Knee Operation at 9AM. I had the left knee done a few years ago and now can't remember if I had any issues afterward ... ???

Yep, a long, cold winter for sure. Ours was made even longer and colder as we both have covid. I'm immune compromised so did get Paxlovid. My squeeze has handled it much better than I did. We were both vaccinated & got boosters and I hate to think what would have happened to us without that. If that's not enough - and it never is - she had a stroke before any covid hit. I'm anxious to get to the range and BURN SOME POWDER!

We didn't escape that nor'easter yesterday. Blizzard, heavy snow and white-out conditions so that it was not always possible to see across the street! Maybe this is the last snow of the season???

Snowing here today. Nothing out of the usual for winter. Usually get our wet snows in March and April.
When we lived up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Hayden, Colorado there were years where it snowed every month of that particular year.

I won't tell you all my medical problems as I never discuss them, but I can assure you they aren't pleasant. Neither me nor the kids have been vaccinated and never will be. People around us that we know that have been vaccinated keep getting the Chinese flu over and over and over again.
Had a bout back in 2020 in February and took tylenol and thera flu just like I do if I get a touch of the seasonal flu.

We didn't get "the jab" either. I had Covid-19 the last few days of December 2019, got to the doc January 2nd and she didn't know what she was dealing with but I had bronchitis so she put me on a Z-pack. That knocked it out in 3 days. Had it again a couple of months ago, we were prepared with azithromycin and the animal wormer, got over it muy pronto. My Sweetie got it also, probably from me but she kicked it in a week or so.

I don't mind winter. I can work longer and no sweating. You can always dress up to keep warm, but in the summer when it's 80 - 90 + degrees, I can't even work in the shop very long even with a fan going. I don't mind snow until it starts going over a foot deep. Fortunately
I have a plow on the Polaris, but, the back deck still has to be shoveled. I guess you could say Autumn is my most favorite time of year.
Re: Been a long cold winter
I got all my covid shots last year and didn't catch anything. I haven't had the flu in 20 years.
I have a doctors appointment the 15th of this month. I'll get the covid shots again. I don't take chances

My woodshed needs filling. I have a big pile of wood needing to be split but a month or more ago I turned wrong while bringing a box of cat litter into the house and my back went out. Now I can't lift the rounds onto the chopping block, nor pick up and stack what I do get split. But at least I don't hurt when I lift my leg to get my pants on, so there is improvement.

I built a wood shed some years ago, 8'Lx6'W and goes from 5.5' to a little over 6' in height. Holds about 3 full cords and that heats my house the entire winter and usually have 1 to 2 rows left over at the end of heating season. My wood stove is a home made stove that's over 40 years old. M son modified it like the new stoves. I took some black pipe and screwed them together and drilled holes at the proper angles and cut a hole in the side near the top to provide outside air. Then he welded a bracket inside the stove and installed a baffle so that most of the heat stays in the burn box, instead of going out the chimney. Once the box is at around 400° we open the door to the upper pipes we installed and shut down the main air, and the air coming in through the pipes burns the gases created by the wood. The burn box will run around 500° and the chimney pipe will be around 250-300°. We use only wood to heat the house.
Hope to hell that back of yours heals up very soon. Take care friend.
Stan
Re: Been a long cold winter
Here are the pictures Buck. The holes are at about a 30°-45° angle on both sides of the pipe. I used 1/2" black pipe. There is (1) welded bracket for the pipe and (2) welded brackets for the top metal baffle plate. The baffle plate goes from the back to about 2"-3" away from the from panel. As you can see I used (2) lengths of 1/2" black pipe for the width of the stove, (1) shorter length for the cross tie, (1) tee fitting, (1) elbow, (2) end caps, (1) bell reducer 1" or 1.5" to 1/2", Some large washers on both sides to make the connection to the side of the stove tight.

You are very welcome Buck. Always glad to share something good. You folks may find a better way to make an old wood stove more efficient with that idea in mind.
Shoot, I can't believe Thanksgiving is here already. It's my favorite holiday as is the Autumn season.
